Ruffin' It: The Ultimate Guide to Camping with Your Canine Companion
Ruffin' It: The Ultimate Guide to Camping with Your Canine Companion
Camping with your furry best friend can be a truly magical experience. Not only will you get to enjoy the great outdoors together, but you'll also create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. However, before you pack up your pup and hit the trails, there are a few things you'll need to consider to make sure your camping trip is a success.

Here are some tips for camping with your canine companion this summer:

Pack the Right Gear:

Make sure you have all the necessary gear for your pup, including a leash, collar, food and water bowls, and plenty of food and water. Don't forget to pack a first aid kit for your dog as well.

Check the Campground Rules:

Before you book your campsite, make sure to check the campground's rules regarding dogs. Some campgrounds may have specific rules regarding where dogs can be, and some may not allow dogs at all.

Be Prepared for the Weather:

Dogs can be sensitive to extreme temperatures, so make sure you're prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. Bring a raised dog bed or cooling blanket for them to sleep on, and make sure they have plenty of shade during hot days.

Hike Safely:

Dogs love to hike and explore, but it's important to make sure they're able to handle the trail. Start with shorter, easier hikes and work your way up to more challenging terrain. Make sure to keep your dog on a leash at all times, and bring plenty of water for them to drink.

Be a Good Neighbour:

Always clean up after your dog, and make sure to keep them quiet at night. No one wants to be woken up by a barking dog in the middle of the night.

Have Fun:

Remember, camping with your dog is about having fun and creating memories together. So, don't stress about the small stuff and enjoy the time with your best friend.

Further suggestions:

-Pack a portable water bowl for your dog and go for a swim in a nearby lake or river.

-Bring a Frisbee or ball and have a game of fetch in a nearby open field.

-Take a sunset hike and snap some beautiful pictures of you and your pup enjoying nature together.

-Pack some dog-friendly treats and have a picnic on the beach or by a lake.

-Bring a portable dog shower and give your pup a refreshing bath after a long hike.

Camping with your dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have. With a little planning and preparation, you and your pup will be able to enjoy the great outdoors together safely and comfortably. So, pack up your gear, grab your pup and hit the trails for an adventure you'll never forget. Happy camping!

Back-to-School Blues: How to Keep Your Dog's Routine on Track
Back-to-School Blues: How to Keep Your Dog's Routine on Track

As our beloved furry friends, dogs rely on us to provide them with a sense of stability and security in their lives. One important way we can do this is through the establishment of a consistent routine. Routines provide structure and predictability in a dog’s life, which can help to reduce anxiety and stress and promote a sense of well-being.

However, as kids head back to school and our own routines change, it’s important to consider how these changes may affect our dogs. The transition from summer break to a more structured school schedule can be difficult for dogs, as they may feel confused and anxious about the changes in their routine.

So, how can we help our dogs adjust to a new routine as kids head back to school?
Here are a few tips:

Gradually adjust your dog's schedule:

Start adjusting your dog's schedule a few weeks before school starts to give them time to get used to the new routine.

Create a consistent routine:

Establish a consistent daily routine for your dog that includes regular meal times, walks, and playtime.

Provide plenty of exercise:

Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise during the day, whether it's through walks, runs, or playtime in the backyard.

Provide mental stimulation:

Provide your dog with interactive toys and puzzles to keep them mentally stimulated while you're away.

Give plenty of love and attention:

Show your dog plenty of love and attention when you're home, so they feel secure and happy.

Consider doggy daycare:

If your dog is having a hard time adjusting to the new routine, consider doggy daycare to provide them with socialisation and exercise during the day.

Keep patience and be consistent:

Keep patience and be consistent with the new routine and make sure to be consistent with your commands and training, this will help your dog to understand and adapt to the new schedule.

Why are routines so important to dogs?

Routines are important to dogs because they provide structure and predictability in their lives. Dogs thrive on consistency and routine allows them to understand what is expected of them and what will happen next. This can help to reduce anxiety and stress, making them feel more secure and comfortable in their environment.

A consistent routine can also help dogs to better understand their role within the family and how they fit into the household. It can also help to establish clear boundaries and expectations, making it easier for dogs to learn and follow commands.

Additionally, routines can help dogs to establish healthy habits such as regular meal times, potty breaks, and exercise. This can help to prevent behavioural issues that may arise from lack of structure and consistency.

Overall, having a consistent routine can help to promote a sense of security and well-being in dogs which can lead to a happier and more content pet. It's important to remember that every dog is different and what works for one dog may not work for another. It may take some trial and error to find the best routine for your dog, but with patience and consistency, you can help them adjust to the changes.

Dog Food 101: Understanding the Basics of Feeding Your Furry Friend
Dog Food 101: Understanding the Basics of Feeding Your Furry Friend

As a dog owner, one of your most important responsibilities is ensuring that your furry friend gets the proper nutrition they need to stay healthy and happy. However, it can be overwhelming to know where to start with so many different types of dog food on the market. In this blog post, we'll cover the basics of dog nutrition and explore the different kinds of dog food available, so you can make an informed decision about what to feed your pup.

First and foremost, it's essential to understand the nutritional needs of dogs. Just like humans, dogs require a balanced diet that includes protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Protein is essential for building and maintaining muscle mass and should make up most of a dog's diet.. Carbohydrates provide energy and fibre and can be found in grains like rice and barley. Finally, vitamins and minerals are necessary to maintain overall health and prevent deficiencies.

When it comes to choosing a dog food, you'll have a few different options to choose from.

The most common types of dog food include

Fresh food: This food is made with raw and fresh ingredients. It's usually made with meats, vegetables, and fruits. This type of food is considered the most natural option, and though it can be more costly than other types of dog food, it is gaining popularity among pet owners, as it's to be closer to a dog's natural diet.

Dry kibble: This is the most convenient and budget-friendly option and can be found in most pet stores and supermarkets. Kibble is made by cooking, grinding, and then shaping the ingredients into small pellets. This food is easy to store and can last for months if kept in a cool, dry place. ** you’ve only written where you can buy dry kibble, not the other types of dog food**

Wet food: This is a more expensive option, but it's also more palatable for dogs and can provide more moisture. Wet food is typically sold in cans or pouches and is often made with higher-quality ingredients than dry kibble.

Homemade food: Some pet owners prefer to make their dog food, which allows them to control the ingredients and ensure that their dog gets a balanced diet. Homemade food can be made from a variety of ingredients, including meats, vegetables, and grains.

Freeze-dried and dehydrated food: This type of dog food is made by removing the moisture from fresh ingredients and then rehydrating them before serving lightweight and easy to store, making it a great option for travelling or camping.

When selecting dog food, it's essential to check the label to ensure that the food meets your dog's nutritional needs. Look for a food that (lists) contains a high-quality protein source as the first ingredient.

It's also important to note that not all dog food are created equally. Some are formulated to meet the needs of specific life stages (such as puppy, adult or senior), while others are designed to address specific health conditions. It's also important to pay attention to the food's macronutrient ratio (protein, fat, and carbohydrates), as different breeds have different nutritional needs.

Therefore, it's a good idea to consult your veterinarian to determine the best diet for your dog's needs.

In addition to choosing the right type of food, it's also important to consider the portion size and feeding schedule. Your dog's portion size will depend on its age, size, and activity level. One way to manage portion sizes is to monitor your dog's weight and adjust the portions accordingly to avoid overfeeding and obesity. Dogs should be fed two to three small meals daily rather than one large meal.

In addition to understanding the basics of dog nutrition and the different types of dog food available, choosing a reputable brand that uses high-quality ingredients is also important. One such brand is Bowlsome Dog Food.

New Year, New You (And Your Dog). Simple Routines to Improve Your Life and Make Your Dog Happy
New Year, New You (And Your Dog). Simple Routines to Improve Your Life and Make Your Dog Happy

As dog owners, we all want to provide the best possible life for our furry friends. One of the best ways to do that is through the establishment of simple and consistent routines. Routines not only provide structure and predictability for our dogs, but they can also improve our own lives and strengthen the bond we share with our pets.

Here are a few simple routines dog owners can adopt this year that will improve both your lives and make your dog happy:

    Set a consistent feeding schedule:

Dogs thrive on regular meal times, so establish a consistent feeding schedule for your dog and stick to it. This will help them to feel more secure and prevent behavioural issues related to food.

    Take regular walks:

Regular walks not only provide your dog with much-needed exercise, but they also provide a great opportunity for bonding and mental stimulation. Aim to take your dog for at least one walk a day, and try to vary the route to keep things interesting.

    Playtime and training:

Make time for playtime and training with your dog daily. This not only provides mental and physical stimulation, but also helps to strengthen the bond between you and your pet.

Provide a comfortable place to sleep:

Dogs need a comfortable place to sleep and rest, so make sure your dog has a cosy bed in a quiet area of the house.

    Establish a bedtime routine:

Just like humans, dogs benefit from a consistent bedtime routine. Establish a routine that includes a last walk, playtime and a goodnight kiss. This will help your dog to understand that it's time to sleep.

Keep a close eye on their behaviour:

Observe your dog's behaviour and attitude, if you notice any changes in their behaviour or attitude that may be caused by changes in their routine, try to address it as soon as possible.

By incorporating these simple routines into your daily life, you can help to promote a sense of stability and security for your dog, while also improving your own quality of life. Additionally, the bond between you and your dog will strengthen, making for a happier dog and a happier you!

Introducing our Bowlsome Dog Food meatballs to your dog's daily diet
Introducing our Bowlsome Dog Food meatballs to your dog's daily diet

As a responsible pet parent, you think carefully about what to put in your pup’s bowl. Mealtime should fill them up with healthy, nutritious food that nourishes their body, gives them energy, and helps them feel their best.

If you’ve decided it’s time to introduce a new food like Bowlsome to their diet, it’s important to make the change intentionally and gradually. By doing so, you can protect their belly and prevent uncomfortable side effects.

Today, we’re sharing how to approach this process and the steps to follow. This way, you can incorporate our premium, wholesome dog food without worry!

What to Expect When Introducing a New Food to Your Dog

When introducing a new food to your dog, such as our delicious Bowlsome Meatballs, you can usually expect an energetic response. In fact, you may find that your dog is so excited they want to inhale half a packet immediately!

While that response is encouraging, remember to take it slow. It’s best to introduce your pup to our food slowly. Changing a dog’s diet too quickly can result in an upset stomach, loose stools, or even diarrhoea. That’s because your dog’s stomach has become accustomed to the specific ingredients they’re used to eating on a daily basis.

By introducing a new food, you’re changing the balance in their gut microbiome. Even if your dog’s current food is similar to Bowlsome, you’ll find that our single-meat protein recipes are often richer than what they’re familiar with.

By slowly integrating the new food into their current food, you can reduce the risk of gastrointestinal distress. Instead of shocking their system with a new blend of ingredients, you’ll give them time to acclimate themselves to it, which should keep their tummy feeling great.

    Introduce Gradually Over 7 Days

When you’re ready to switch your dog’s diet over to Bowlsome, allow one week to fully make the change. To avoid an upset stomach, we recommend introducing our recipes to your dog gradually over the next three to seven days.

The specific amount of time you’ll need to take will depend on how your dog typically reacts to a diet change. If you’ve never fed them anything except their current food, take it extra slow and stretch the process over the full seven days.

To start, simply replace a small portion of their food with our Bowlsome meatballs. Around one-fourth of their usual amount is appropriate for most dogs. Then, incrementally increase that amount until you’ve replaced their entire bowl with our nourishing, whole-food meals.

How to Know If Your Dog is Actually Intolerant to a New Food

Our recipes include the highest-quality ingredients, specially blended to optimise your pet’s health and meet all of its nutritional needs. However, after making the change to Bowlsome, you may notice that your dog has loose stools or is showing other signs of an upset stomach.

If this is the case, monitor their symptoms closely. If they persist for more than a week or two, then they could be intolerant to an ingredient in one of our formulas.

We take your pet’s health very seriously, so please reach out to us if this occurs. We’ll work with you and your vet to understand the issue and find an appropriate solution to help your faithful friend feel better in no time!

Introducing a new food to your dog might seem challenging at first, but as long as you know what to do, it can be one of the best decisions you make for your beloved pet.

Specially formulated to meet the nutrient needs of dogs at all life stages, our low-fat meatballs include fresh meat and veggies plus essential vitamins and minerals. Your pup will love the switch, and they’ll thank you for taking the time to help them adjust!
